I was told by the Historian Dick White from Montauk Point Lighthouse committee that the windmill is McCaffrey's, originally located on the former Sandpiper Hill, Ditch Plains. The photographer Peter Beard was the last owner, he dismantled it, re-erected it, then it burned down.

ReplyDeleteI remember this property from before it burned down in the 1970s. What a lovely East End view captured in this magnificent watercolor.
